Special Education

The goal of the Special Education Committee (SEC) is to establish a network of support for parents and guardians of students with special needs so that they can help their children maximize their potential.

  •  To support the district to assist the schools in most effectively helping children with special needs
  •  To provide information to all parents and community members about children with special needs, so that they can understand and support all children
  •  To help all children understand and appreciate the challenges faced by children with special needs
  •  To make recommendations to the Advocacy committee to secure and retain adequate laws (and funding for them) for children with special needs

Activities may include:

  • Special Needs activities and trainings
  • Parent to parent mentorship
  • Coordinates with other SPC committees
  • Parent and community education 
  • Volunteer at events

Committee Chairperson volunteer description:

  • The Chair of the SPC Special Education Committee (SEC) is the main contact person for SEC events and activities. Specifically, the Chair will:
    •  Lead monthly SEC meetings
    • Advise and report to  the Executive Board 
  • Write article or record vlog for SPC  monthly newsletter
  • Work with the Outreach Committee to oversee Ability Awareness activities and outreach
  • Help inform the public about events and activities supportive of special needs students
  • Maintain SEC web page, social media discussion groups (if created)
