Working in partnership with district staff, SPC Emergency Preparedness Committee of the SPC, the Prevention and Wellness Committee seeks to improve and sustain a districtwide local wellness policy which integrates school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS), a proactive, multi-tiered, team-based framework for creating and sustaining safe, equitable, and effective schools. . Emphasis is placed on prevention of problem behavior, development of pro-social skills and social-emotional learning (SEL), and the use of data-based problem solving for addressing existing behavior concerns. School-wide PBIS increases the capacity of schools to educate all students utilizing evidence-based school-wide, classroom, and individualized interventions. This committee collaborates with district staff and families to develop and maintain effective three-tiered mental health intervention system, including linkages with community providers and agencies. Wellness includes physical, as well as mental health. The Nutrition Subcommittee is part of the Prevention and Wellness Committee.
